Pembroke, Pembrokeshire

Originally part of the tidal Pembroke River estuary, a barrage created in the 1970s made Pembroke's main millpond into a freshwater lake. The millpond originally fulfilled two purposes by creating a defensive 'moat' around the northern side of the town and castle, and by providing the water flow required to power the corn mill which supplied the town and castle.
